IKEA enters pet market with introduction of dozens of items for dogs and cats
Many people go to IKEA for the hot dogs but now the furniture-maker is offering ways to keep your dog warm as well.
IKEA has introduced dozens of new items for dog and cat owners this week.
The pet products, which are part of the LURVIG line (lurvig being the Swedish word for ‘shaggy’), are being rolled out into stores across North America this month.
“Have you ever felt like your cat or dog wasn’t just a pet but a member of the family?” IKEA asked in its announcement. “It’s exactly that focus that led IKEA to make the comprehensive LURVIG pet product range.”
The Swedish company says it worked with trained veterinarians to design the product line.
Among the more interesting offerings is a cat scratch mat which will allow you to turn a table leg into a place for your cat to exercise his claws.
There is also a little ball which will allow you to tuck a treat inside it.
“[It’s] easy for your dog to bite and hold since the ball has an uneven surface,” IKEA noted. “The ball’s uneven surface also helps to clean your dog’s teeth.”
There is also a pet bed which operates similarly to a pullout couch.
“You can quickly and easily create an even larger sleeping space by folding out the seat cushion.”
IKEA also created cat houses which can either stand on their own or slide seamlessly into furniture lines.
The LURVIG line also includes reflective leashes, bowls and toys. There is also a travel carrier for cats, brushes and other items as well.
Some Twitter users were excited by the new IKEA line.
Others felt they had already purchased furniture for their animals.
